Corona/Norco Bus Service Being CutReply: Cindy Ferry
Depending on the age of your child/ren and your ability to have supervision for them, I'd suggest the option of using the Public Schools Home Education or Online system. I believe it is called Connections and they have a web site at Connections.com (http://capistrano.connectionsacademy.com/capistrano/geosearch?_kk=2f50ef2a-d2ff-45ed-8733-716b2f638c0c&_kt=8851459544&gclid=CKPbhfrfxa8CFSoGRQoda2Ruaw). If you go to Connections. com, it will bring up their web site.  There are many Online Education links out there.  If there is a subject they needed added help in and you can't or don't have time to help with, try a tutor. MyLearningCenter.com (http://www.mylearningstudio.com/), which is located on the corner of Van Buren Blvd. and Washington St., about two doors down, to the right, of the Stater Brothers Grocery Store, has a very good reputation, very nice staff and the children seem to like them as well.
There are MANY ... MANY ... homeschool groups and the children find lots of friends, form lots of social groups, create their own study groups and parents make friends with other homeschooling parents, plan events, field trips and parkdays together. The one we used was Riverside Area Home Learners (RAHL) (http://rahl.org/)and it is a non-denominational, multi-option forms of education group open to all, even those that are just looking into, or checking out their options. On their homepage you'll find links to other home education groups and you can check those out as well.

CNUSD Busing to be cutPost: gone2june
I spoke with the Transportation Supervisor this morning regarding the recent article in the PE. I get the paper edition and don't have a link to the article on-line.  The busing is not only in danger of being cut, but WILL be cut even to the Lake Mathews area as early as the 2012-2013 school year. Unless the budget changes drastically, it will definatly be cut for the 2012-2014 school year. The district currently provides 4 buses to our area (2 elementary, 1 Jr. High, 1 high school).  The busing will potentially be kept for the Home Gardens area.  Special Education will continue to always have busing (federal law PL 94-142).
Please write the CNUSD school board and let them know how imperative it is for our children to have busing. Are they expecting our children to WALK or ride their bikes up/down Cajalco Rd to and from school every day?  Please write them regarding your own specific information, including school start time, end time, distance from school, as well as the conflicts in your work schedule.  We also have to pay a lot of money for our busing, but yet other neighborhoods where families may be excluded from paying for bus service due to their income can keep their busing?  You may also want include:
- safety (where do kids go while waiting for parents after school)
- loss of attendance money (changing to private schools or keeping kids home because there is no one to pick up afterschool)
They will be voting on this issue on May 1, 2012, so we need to get those letters out now.
Thank You
