Community Protection Cut/State Attornyes Get Nicer OfficesPost: Cindy Ferry
Take a loot at item 3.16 on Tues. Board of Supervisors Hearing. Look at how much money is being spend to upgrade this office space! Now I see that this space will be rented to the Federal Gov. for the United States Attorneys office, and the monies they will be paying and I think putting up for part of this upgrade is nice ... BUT ... I do think that maybe when the County Sheriff is making public announcements about budget cutbacks and how this means he can no longer afford to support coverage, patrol and enforcement in the unincorporated areas of the county ... WERE TAXPAYERS SUCH AS OURSELVES live ... that maybe this spending should be put on hold, as were funds for PUBLIC PROTECTION. Personal, I just do NOT see where a nicer office gets money from the Economic Development Agency, while the safety of the public takes a back-seat. I say pull funds from the Economic Development Dept. and give more money to the protection of the public (and this does NOT mean to the pay of officers, but the actually cost of cars, equipment, office supplies to back up the officers reports to the DA's office). The attorneys can wait for nicer offices until after the public feels safe again and the crime rate JUMP in our community goes back to what it was before our community was left with their proverbial butts hanging out in the wind.
