Neighborhood Watch RestrictedReply: Hugh
I don't understand. What kind of neighborhood watch group would restrict neighbors from participating? Perhaps they feel those certain individuals are part of the neighborhood problem. That's a possibility. Our non-organized watch group on Descanso Dr. would most likely choose to not include a certain resident. Why? That person has proved to be one of our main problems.

Maybe I should clarify..this neighborhood watch , I guess, isn't invitation only, however, you get removed or are not included if for some reason you differ in opinions. Many in the neighborhood have been but suddenly find themselves excluded or removed from the email list. It just seems a little odd.

I have attended the neighborhood watch meetings you are talking about and I was not aware it was invitation only. I know fliers have been distributed in the past around the neighborhood so I really don't think that is the case. I would be happy to bring you with me to the next meeting if you would like to go.

Invitation?Reply: Lisa
I did not realize the neighborhood watch was invitation only, sorry. I just knew one existed, who would have thought??

Neighborly WatchReply: Lisa
That is pretty much what we do at GS & SRR's. It works pretty good and the email list works well to alert neighbors of suspicious activity. There have been petty thefts but much less than a few years ago. This community really does look out for each other.

The Need for Neighborhood Watch?Reply: Hugh
On my street in Lake Mathews there are three or four neighbors that keep a sharp eye out for possible 'trouble' - we find no need for meetings. When we see something out of the norm we call our neighbors and alert them. It works just fine, and has for umpteen years.

ThanksReply: Shadow
Thanks for the info but the one you are talking about off Ranchito/Broadview is "restricted" and by invitation only. I was looking for something that includes everyone and is more neighborly.

I am not sure for which area you are asking about. Gavilan Springs/Santa Rosa Ranchos had a joint one, we bought signs, held meetings, even had the sheriff's dept out a few times but people lost interest and it fell by the wayside. If you are around Broadview/Ranchito there is a group that holds quarterly meetings there I can get you a contact number.

Sorry for the delayed response here. I have been trying to find out some info for you as we have come across this question in the past. I am still looking and will get back to you as soon as I find something. If I recall, I do know that anyone can start one and I believe it is just a community driven thing. That being said, I would say that someone would probably need to take the lead on it and be willing to host meetings etc. Again, I will get back to you with more information as I find it. Please come to our community meeting on Wednesday and voice your concerns, there may be others there that want the same thing and may be willing to join up and help you get started.

Here is the National Neighborhood Watch Site, a great place to start.

Are there any neighborhood watch groups out there for us to attend??? I only know of one but it is by "invitation only". Would love to find a group or form one if there isn't already one that meets??
