Trash and landfillsReply: newmanpenny
It made me sad to read that anyone was using 6 brown cans. If you look, most of what is thrown away is recyclable. I have a neighbor that NEVER uses their grey can and I see piles of cardboard and everything else in their trash. HELLO?!?!?! for over 30 years I have been trying to "go green" and it is not that hard, but it will not make a hill of difference if we all don't try. One person or even half cannot make up for the other half.
Jeremy Irons, the actor just made a documentary regarding trash. I hope that many people see it as we cannot keep dumping things and expecting them just to disappear.

Waste Management Rate ClarificationReply: Nathan
OK, I will try to clarify this from the info I was given. Sorry for the delay but I wanted to make sure I got the facts before I posted anything. Below is an email I received from Julie Reyes who is the Waste Management rep. who spoke at our recent meeting regarding this issue.

Each resident receives 1-96 gal trash and 1-96 gal recycle cart.

New rates go in effect July 1st ($21.46/month)

Rates will be increased $2 per month, each year until they reach the “rural rate”

Billing Cycles are quarterly (we have 3 cycles: Jan/Feb/Mar, or Feb/Mar/Apr, or Apr, May, Jun), this depends on the month when their account was originally set up.  The other bill cycle is bi-monthly

Let me try to help with some of the confusion I have heard here. So if you have more than the 2 cans, this may be why your bill is more. If your bill is currently more, I am guessing it is either because the new rate structure has not kicked in yet or you may be looking at the quarterly billing cycle and thinking it is your monthly rate.

The "rural rate" I am told is $25/month. I have also been informed that there is a discount for seniors but this would also mean a smaller can.

I hope this helps clear up some of the questions. Please feel free to post more comments or questions and if I can answer them for you, I will. If I am unable to answer them, I will gladly put you in contact with Julie directly. Just email me directly and request her info and I will pass it on to you.

dumpster serviceReply: Diana
I had a dumpster, it cost me about $160 a month.  We had to pay a valet service fee to come pick up the dumpster, dump it, then return it . It used to be about $60 a month until they said I had to have the valet service. Now we have regular pick up. I was happy about the cost considering what I was paying before.

Do they put a gun to your head?Reply: BillB
$43 a month is robbery! We compact our trash and take it to the dump, then sell anything we can recycle. In the end, it costs us next to nothing for our trash.

Waste Managment BillingReply: Carol G
We have just the one regular trash and one recycle and our bill this month was $43.60

Take it yourselfReply: BillB
It only cost $8.00 for a pickup load just down the street at El Sobrante landfill. If you're too heavy they charge more, but nowhere near $130.00.

Waste ManagmentReply: Linda
When are the bills going to change? My bill went up from 61.08 for May-June to 62.24 July-August for 2 months. I don't understand how they get away with this. Linda

Also did you mean August?

Waste Management Rate UpdatesReply: Nathan
I just wanted to let everyone know that I have been informed of the new rate adjustments for Waste Management services. I was informed that those that are paying the higher rate will come down to $21 / month and those that are on the lower end, should already be at or will be moved to $21 / month and they will both increase together at the rate of $2 per year until they reach the desired $27 / month rate. Just an FYI.

Waste Management Rate ChangesPost: Nathan
I just wanted to inform everyone that your Waste Management bill will be changing soon. Apparently there has been a lot of issues with some people paying too much and others paying too little. I was informed that our standard rate for trash will be $25/month. Some pay $13 while others pay $30. They will be phasing in the changes over the next year or so. We will have someone come to our April meeting to speak on this in further detail as that is all I know right now. FYI
