Recently blind friend or family?Post: Michelle Randall
My husband was blinded by a stroke year before last. He has extremely limited peripheral vison in one eye, but kept pestering his doctor for glasses until his eye doctor referred him to the Low Vision Center in Long Beach. The Low Vision Center told him about the Braille Library and then sent him a referral to the Braille Library. They set him up for digital books on tape. After about a month from the application date, he received a digital player and a thick catalog of book titles, all free. I ordered him a half dozen different titles and they arrived in a couple of days. The tapes come in a hard, plastic case with a self-addressed card.  To send them back, you just insert the card and drop the case in the mail.  No postage to pay, it's all 100% free. Every couple of months I receive a supplemental catalog of new titles to order from. This service has been the greatest thing since popcorn. Bill can't use the TV remote but with his "books" he's never bored. If you or yours knows someone who is blind, ask your eye doctor about the Braille library service.
