Light BulbsReply: Anne
The ban of the 100w light bulb was overturned in Congress last December, so it's still possible to buy them. For now.

Thank You EnvironmentalistsReply: Hugh

This light bulb thing wasn’t a problem a few years ago. Butnow that the liberal environmentalists have pushed their (certainly not mine)beliefs on everyone we now have NEW environmental problems. They say if youburst one of the new bulbs you need protective gloves to handle it – what kindof crap is that? There may not be an “Light Bulb” police right now but I betthey are on the horizon – coming soon to your home and mine.  PS I have about a 2.5-year supply of 'real' light bulbs, both indoor and out, so right now this crap isn't an issue.

Battery & Bulb DisposalReply: Sandy
I just called Home Depot and they confirmed that they have containers by the front doors for FREE disposal of old batteries and light bulbs. Just drop them off the next time you go to Home Depot!  No need to pay for a container.  I think Lowe's and Sams have them too.

wasteReply: Anne
I never realized that batteries shouldn't be thrown in the trash because they can contaminate the water - always thrown them out. Don't really want to pay the $6 for a container to put them in for WM to pick it up  - if I understand correctly.

Here's the thing...Reply: Roy
1.  There are no light bulb police, but there are laws that have been put in place to give teeth to these new environmental regulations, I assure you.  The regulations will enforced by Administrative Law, the kind where you must pay a fine but you get no right to a jury trial to fight for your honor, innocence, and perhaps a little justice.  Administrative law is guilt without presumption of innocence, pay the fine or else.  2.  I am glad that WM treats some people perfectly.  I have only lived here a few years and I seem to have one or two issues that I need to waste time and phone calls on to clear up each year.  I can say they do clear the problems up, but honestly, they could improve IMO.  3.  Agua Mansa is a 42 minute drive, according to Google maps.  Not real green to drive a car for an hour and half round trip, to dispose of a light bulb.  4.  Love all posts, because discussion and freedom of speech are important.  Even polite disagreement can be a source of learning, or at least, entertainment.

Who's checking?Reply: gone2june
1. Are the flouresent light bulb police coming to check your trash? 2. WM has always solved our problems quickly and without any major issues. 3. They will take the CFL bulbs at the Agua Mansa county facility. 4. Hugh - Lovin your posts! Glad your contradictions against the norm are making it onto the board.

Waste ManagementReply: Hugh
We've only lived here 17 years. I know others trump us and use it to make points. However, in the year's we've NEVER had a problem with Waste Management. In fact, it's been the opposite. WM has served our needs day in, day out, month in, month out and year in, year out. Advice: Don't do "auto" pay with any company - it's not the smart way to go, IMO. Hopefully I haven't made a "personal" attack and I can post my personal comment.

The Joys of Government ControlReply: BillB

Isn't socialism wonderful? It is what makes Cuba the great thriving nation it is today, where doctors earn as much as janitors, and everyone gets to drive classic cars. They have managed to spread the poverty evenly among the population. Apparently, this is the model our imposter-in-chief (I refuse to call him what he cannot legally be -- president) has in store for us. Ain't it wonderful?

Check your Waste Management bill. - RoyReply: Cindy Ferry
And did they tell you the price to buy their container to put the bulbs into and then have them removed? Well, I'll just end there because I've been all day in a fit of government and business in my face, telling me how I can live my life and placing controls on how I live. So, we do NOT want to get me going ... AGAIN ... LOL! Also, how many of you are now billed for 3 months intervals and how many of us are still billed every two months? I found this one out when we purchased our rentals in Gavilan Park. They are billed every three months now and I'm still billed every other month, as I have been for 20 + years now. Again, it's to save on time, paper, stamps and all that .... right? OR ... is it so they get to now collect up to three months before they even provide the service? Are you feelin like it's getting out of hand? I know I sure am. Found out to today that there is this Senate Bill S510 and in it, the President (and you know my STRONGE dislike of Obama) can use and executive order and the Government can step in and take control of EVERY farm in the United States of America. We have already seen how much he LOVES that "Executive Order" move/play he gets to use and abuse. I love how we now get told how to use our water and pay through the nose for it. How we can and cannot use our trash service and pay for it three months before they have to actually provide the service. How I can "rent" the tank for my propane but I cannot buy my propane from another company and put it into the tank I've paid to rent. That if I rent the "tank" I have BUY the propane from that same company. Then you get to pay them to come pick up their equipment, valves and so on when you decide not to "rent" their tank anymore. Then you get to work your butt off and pay all your own living costs and then pay for the guy that won't get off his butt to work and pay for his needs as well. But, please do remember that all of this is being done in your best interest, they know what they are doing, we do not and they know better than we do how to care for the people.

Check your Waste Management bill.Post: Roy
I had money removed twice this month automatically from my checking, by Waste Management.  If you are on auto-pay, check carefully.  They claim to have had a "glitch".  Funny, glitches never happen in my favor.  Anyway, it happened back on the 6th and they never adjusted it until I called them.

I also want to note with great annoyance and outrage, that they informed me I could no longer throw away batteries or ANY florescent light bulbs in their garbage.  So let me get this straight... my favorite bright warm Thomas Edison light bulb is outlawed, and the cold new replacement is so toxic, that they can't accept it at the dumpster!  I am not against environmentalism, but I am against stupidity, and there are some mightily inferior thought processes at work within the Green movement!  That is probably charitable, because it alleges only stupidity.  Many now see this sort of regulation as a frontal attack on the economy of the United States, to bring us down to a lower level of consumption and wealth.  I think it is a combination of both.
