Free Household Hazardous Waste Collection in Mead Valley on SaturdayPost: JanetM

The Riverside County Department of Waste Resources hasscheduled a free household hazardous-wastecollection event on Saturday (Jan. 21) at the Mead Valley CommunityCenter. The collection is open to all Riverside County residents.

 

The department provides an opportunity for Riverside Countyresidents to keep hazardous waste out of the county landfills and ensure it isproperly managed.  The event will accept residentially generatedhousehold hazardous wastes from Riverside County residents only.  Wastefrom businesses or non-profits will not be accepted.  Typical wastesinclude used motor oil, paint, antifreeze, household and automotive batteries,pesticides, cleaning products, sharps (needles/syringes or lancets), unusedmedication (except controlled substances), fluorescent lamps, and electronicwastes such as televisions, computers, VCRs and telephones. Limit the amount ofwaste transported to no more than 15 gallons, or 125 pounds maximum pervehicle.  Individual containers should be no larger than five gallons norweigh more than 50 pounds.

 

The collection will not accept explosives, radioactivematerial, ammunition, asbestos, compressed-gas cylinders over 40 pounds, orinfectious or medical waste other than sharps.

 

The event is subject to cancellation during inclement weatheror for other hazardous conditions as determined by the county.
