Home-made remediesReply: Susan
Thanks, Nathan, boy do I appreciate this home-made remedy as Master Gardeners through UCR were only promoting roundup and FORBADE us to talk about home-made remedies that have been around hundreds of years....crazy, huh?  Monsanta driven by funding to the campus

Vinager and soapReply: KepSter
I just read that adding vinager and soap to herbacides will increase their effectiveness; therefore, I wondered if this would also increase the potency of Nathans's recipie above.

Organic PesticidePost: Nathan
Cindy,
I am not sure if this will help as I am unsure what exactly is eating the leaves but I use a special organic homemade pesticide. This is what I do.

1 whole onion
1 whole garlic head
1 cup fresh red pepper or jalapeño
1 tsp. soap
1 gal. water

I get fresh and run them through my juicer so I get rid of all the pulp as to not clog my sprayer. You can mix it together other ways but I have found juicing it is best for a sprayer. You MUST spray once every 1-2 weeks since it is organic it is not systemic.

You yourself said they do not eat your peppers, that is because they are a natural bug deterrent. I also plant strategically to help curb unwanted pests too. I plant my onions and peppers around the outside of everything else.

This seems to keep everything at bay for me. You can also buy either a praying mantis egg or a sack of lady bugs from Home Depot and place them in your garden, you will get hundreds of them. They eat bugs and not plants. Lady bugs eat aphids and praying mantis eat everything else.

If you are looking to keep out small rodents or rabbits, I use electric fence, very cheap, very effective. I found this one for inexpensive but can not fully comment on it yet as I have not run it yet and there are much better if you have power.

Hope this helps.
