Cell Tower for the "Land that time Forgot"Reply: STEVE
I always have to remind friends/family coming to visit make sure you have good directions how to get here because once your up on the hill your cell phone wont work. Having lived in Gavilan Hills for the past 20 years you would think we could use our cell phones by now. We live within 4 miles from the Cell Tower and have never received a signal from it, or the one at the bottom of the hill off Gavilan/Cajalco. We depend on our Verizon signal booster at home we got for free because Verizon admits that we don't get a signal up here. We told Verizon if you give us a $250.00 booster and our old cell phones get reception than we can finally buy I Phones and get rid of our AT&T land line which we did. The problem with it though is that every time we have a Power Outage up here..and that seems to be every time we get a little thunder storm we loose our signal. Last year Verizon ran Fiber Optics all along Santa Rosa Mine Rd. but I don't think we will see any of it coming to us at the end of Idaleona Rd. in the 5 acre lots on the east side of Harford Park.
So when people ask where bouts do we live my usual reply is in the "Land the time Forgot" :)

No powerReply: Nick G
We live across the street from it. They still dont have power hooked up to it but a truck comes by every few days to fill the generator up. You can hear it kick on intermittently so I assume the tower is operational.

I believe the crashed airplane happened more near the dam off la Sierra..don't think the one in our neighborhood was involved unless there was a crash I don't know about!

Cell TowerReply: Laurie
BillB;  I believe that that was a different tower that was hit by the plane -as I understand it.  I believe the plane hit a tower closer to the intersection of La Sierra and Cajalco.  South of that intersection, actually.  I will see if I can locate the actual address again.

So the crashed airplane hanging fro the tower didn't hurt it?

cell towerReply: Beverley
Just a bit more information, not sure who it was but a man from over in the next neighborhood told me he had been in contact with the owner of the tower who was in Hawaii on another project and was told it is not completely operational as of yet (about 2 months or so ago).  I am hoping that is the case as I am quite close to the tower and cannot access it although I have Verizon and all my guests are not able to either unless you find a magic spot in the yard and stand just right for 2 dots.  I am hoping this is correct, wish I knew who the gentleman is so I could find out more.  I am on Rocky Glen and Rolling Meadows.

Rocky Bluff Cell TowerReply: Nathan
Pat,
I am speaking form only what I understand and do not have any official word so please take this for what it is worth. It is my understanding that the cell tower was completed last year. In fact I can see it from my home and remember them working on it and completing it. Many as well as myself have noted the 4G signal now that we can get. So it is working and completed. Let me try to help explain how I understand it works and it may help you understand too. I recall that it is a Verizon tower with only 4G. So if your phone is an older 3G or less, you will not be able to connect. Also if you are not Verizon, it does you no good. It also only offers the 4G so unless your phone has 4G data/phone capabilities you will not get the phone calls just the data again if your phone has that. I assume but can not be certain that others will eventually rent space to put their antennas and I do not think Verizon is going to put old tech up as they are moving forward with 4G networks etc. Sorry if this is not the best answer, just trying to help explain it the best that I understand it.

Cell tower on Rocky Bluff ???Post: Pat

Does anyone have an update on our cell tower in Gavilan Hills?

I drove up there last week and the place looks forgotten

There is a chain across the drive and no sign of recent activity
