Looking at the county from thirty thousand feet.Reply: Michelle Randall
Something to keep in mind when looking at the General Plan is that it is intended to be just that, a general plan for the county.  The Planners have to deal with an enormous number of state and federal regulations, for a start. They have to demonstrate in the General Plan how they intend to reduce air and water polution as well as how they intend to deal with growth and traffic.  Although the General Plan deals with specific areas, you have to realize that it is not really area-specific. It is sort of like looking down on Riverside County from an airplane flying along at 30,000 feet. Start by looking at the maps for your area to see how they have things laid out, then go from there to the reading. Off hand, I would say the finished product reads like any EIR. It should repeat itself about 3 times, each time with more detail.  Look at the Index, then read from the back forward.  You might well be able to dismiss the intro altogether.  I sat on the General Plan Oversight Committee, and I can assure you it is a thoughtful document, written without malice.  Michelle Randall

ThankfulReply: Carol G
I am thankful that we, the RAGLM residents, have people looking out for us. A special meeting would be wonderful - maybe at that time we could divide it up and delve into it more. I plan to look at it this weekend myself but can only imagine that it cannot be good for us and will be vague enough that loopholes will be abundant. Government, in general, has proven that their interests are often very different from mine (which usually runs along the lines of leave me to run my own life as long as I am harming no one and allow me the latitude to do so). Change is not always good.

Kind Words and NEVER too busy to take a stand.Reply: Nathan
Sean,
Thank you for your kind words. I think I can speak for most of RAGLM when I say not only do we do this for ourselves and greater community, but we do it because of people like you. No matter how long you have lived here or what your interest in this community is, it is valid. This is YOUR home and you have every right and obligation to protect it. I think we all move up here to live more rural hence the beauty of our community.

I know this can be a very confusing document and please know that those of us who think we know a lot about it are confused too.

Some important events coming up:
May 21, 2014 @ 7:00 p.m.
RAGLM welcomes our planning commissioner as well as our Land Use Adviser. I urge everyone to come and talk with them and ask what their 'vision' is for our area.

TBD: RAGLM is looking to hold a special meeting just for the General Plan. Nothing has materialized yet but we will keep you all informed.

RAGLM has decided to break down the GP into sections so each of us could focus more on one area instead of feeling overwhelmed by the thousands of pages it contains. Maybe we need to come up with a list of sections of importance and break it down on the website for residents to review and comment on. This can help us all by making it manageable and more realistic to review. We will keep you all posted.

Sean, welcome to you and your wife to the community. I love this area because of our residents like you who care about where and how you live. If you make it to a meeting, come up and say hello.

Together we stand, Divided they "win"Reply: sean k
I glanced at as much of it as I could. I could not find the area's proposed to be developed for the new housing, just a bunch of "information" regarding the area of GLM and the idea that they would like to change the roads and such. I for one am a new resident to the area, but grew up in the Green Belt of riverside and moved up here because even that had lost its luster. I would like to keep our area rural, my wife included. We may be one of the youngest residents in the Santa Rosa Community but we would like to participate. Please Nathan, there are many people that read and listen to what you have to say and although we may feel sick to our stomachs reading what they are proposing, it is not wavering my will to stand and fight. Time is hard to come by these days, but time will be made. Please keep us informed. Thank you for your efforts.

Absence is the problem not the solution.Reply: Nathan
Believe me I have never been so sick in my life with our government and to say that I do not have more important things to do (I have 2 small children) is just silly.

We have a choice, we can be sick with what we find and get involved to make changes, or we can complain and say it is hopeless while the kings continue to work. I choose to fight for my family, my fellow citizen and for the future of humanity. If we all had the attitude to walk away when there was trouble, America would have never been. I personally can not look my angels in their faces and tell them I did nothing to try and make the future better for them as I was just too busy.

I know life is busy, let me tell you but we NEED to take the time to shape our communities or as you stated, someone else will do it for us. I guess that is America today, a little sad but I still have faith in humanity and when it starts to really affect their wallet, they will pay attention. We just have not reached that point yet in our country as life is pretty good. That which has no cost has no value and the last few generations were born free. Therefore freedom was free and everyone deserves it but no one is willing to earn or work to maintain it.

I know we all have lives and I am willing to put some of mine aside for my community, this is my choice and I do not expect anyone else to do the same. Yet do not expect me to sit silently and not ask for help. All I ask is do what you can, I do not know anyone's situation nor will I try to claim so, but I do know most could spare an hour or so in the next 60 days to help make their community better. There is roughly 13,000 people in our community. If we all took the time, we could focus on 1 page each. Imagine how efficient we could be. I know that is wishful thinking.

Simply do what you can, and RAGLM will dig in as well and let you know what we find. This is our community and our country and I refuse to just walk away and give it to the kings.

Lake Mathews/Woodcrest Plan - VISIONReply: Hugh
When I hear the word 'vision' used by a politican or county board member I start to shudder. Why? Because I know their 'vision' is not mine or anything close to it and likely not of those from the area of they want to inflict their vision upon. More times than not these members of County Board groups are scary at best. They seem to have agendas not representative of the area they control or represent, but personal agendas for their own interests.

I only got through page nine of 50 of the Lake Mathews/Woodcrest Area Plan before coming sick. I have other important things to do.

General Plan Updates and EIR's Released - 60 days to review and comment!Post: Nathan
I just wanted to share with everyone that the new County General Plan Updates and EIR studies are out. They will be available for public view starting today Thursday, May 1, 2014. You will only have 60 days to make comments on it so if anyone has some 'spare time' to take a look, this community could sure use your help.

RAGLM will be looking it over and examining the areas of direct importance but as you will see the documents are thousands of pages and with only 60 days, we are bound to miss things. So PLEASE, if you have time and want to help shape the future of your community, take a look and report back to us all what you find and what concerns you may have so we can all have some input on this process.

RAGLM will update you with any important findings as we come across them.

Happy Hunting!
