Stray and other loose dogsReply: Michelle Randall
Animal services has large dog traps they can loan you.  You may have to sign up and wait, but it's well worth it. The traps work great and are easier on dog lovers than a bullet.  I once sent a dog a day for 9 days out of Dawson Canyon to Animal Services.  You just call them when the trap is full and they will come get the animal. If you know who owns the dog (s) Animal Services will drive the dog home and have a discussion with the owner if he/she is home.  Out of those nine dogs, only one dog was bailed out, and I did the bailing.  I knew his owner was a jerk who wouldn't bail him out and the nice old dog had only packed up because he was starving. We cared for each other until he died.

StraysReply: Dog Gal

Definitely strays. Where are you?  My neighbors dogs get out all the time in the early mornings . I believe they have a routine, 3 GSD dogs, not friendly either I've notified Animal control and they just say they need to "see" them out!!!

Dogs in packs are the worse. Its legal to shoot them on your property. They'll keep coming back if you don't do something.  Sorry for your loss

Just my 2 cents     Jody

chicken killers' paw printReply: Cheri
the paw print attached...looks like a big dog or coyote.  Raccoons are not strong enough to bend back the coop door i am told.........

Most likely dogsReply: ElaineW
Hi Cheri, I would say it is probably dogs. Mountain Lions, Racoons, Foxes, or Coyotes would most likely jump the fence instead of digging under. Could be some strays in the area, I've seen quite a few out and about. So sorry for the loss of your chickens.

If you could please share the description of the dogs (if any is available) that would be much appreciated.  I have seen way too many wandering in my neighborhood lately.   Some are regulars, which makes me angry... I don't enjoy picking up other people's dog droppings or listening to my dog, as well as the rest of the dogs on the street, going crazy...sometimes being challenged through the fences.

Don't have a dog..if you can't keep in within your own property...and when it isn't on your property ...have control of that animal!  Yes, I have seen some people allowing their dogs to create a commotion and acting like it's ok.   It's not...it's a nuisance.   Rant over.   ;)

CheriReply: Laurie

Cheri, I am so very sorry to read about your chickens!

Thank you for letting everyone know.

Roaming dogs have been a big problem lately.  My horses were recently attacked in the middle of the night, on two occasions, almost 48 hours apart, by two larger stray dogs (there were multiple witnesses that saw the dogs).  One horse was injured, but thankfully not too seriously, and the horse is recovering.  I also read (on this forum, I think?) about two (different, from the description) loose dogs killing another dog nearby, a couple of days after that.

Again, I'm so very sorry.

With the recent rains - were there any tracks?

Just a thought (and I could very well be wrong) - but I believe that a mountain lion, in most cases, would most likely have taken it's kill away and eaten it - not killed them all and left them?  Unless of course the cat was interrupted.
