Passing this on from another resident.
The Riverside Emergency Animal Rescue System (“REARS”) is a network of trained volunteers who assist Riverside County Animal Services in large-scale emergencies such as wildfires.  The volunteers are dispatched through the animal services command structure, and only those volunteers who have been certified can assist when REARS is called into action.  Certification provides crucial training and safety exercises in order to help save, protect, and care for small and large animals during a crisis.
The next orientation meeting and various training exercises are:
Saturday, Jan. 11 at the Western Riverside County/City Animal Shelter
6851 Van Buren Blvd.
The orientation for all prospective shelter and REARS-interested volunteers begins at 10:30am and runs until about noon.
REARS signups then break into a separate orientation that ends about 5pm.
For information, send an e-mail to Rita Gutierrez at RDgutier@rcdas.org
The REARS volunteer application form can also be found on the REARS website at www.rcrears.com/member.htm
